The year 2023 brings an important innovation for the self-employed in Mallorca (and throughout Spain). So-called "autonomos" will be confronted with a new contribution system, which provides for a gradual increase in the bases divided into 15 income classes. The new scenario foresees a gradual decrease in the minimum contribution and an increase in the maximum contribution over the next three years.

In 2023, the self-employed earning less than 670 euros net will have to pay a contribution of 230 euros per month, while those earning more than 6,000 euros will pay 500 euros. By 2025, these contributions will rise to 200 and 590 euros, respectively.

The self-employed continue to choose the contribution base, but it must be adjusted to their expected net income for the entire year. In December, Social Security makes an adjustment to the contribution and the amount due based on this income, so that the difference is refunded if there has been an overpayment and the self-employed person is required to pay if the contribution is less than the net income.

If the estimated income changes, a new contribution basis and thus a new adjusted contribution can be selected every two months. Up to six changes per year are possible.
