Guest registration is mandatory for all types of accommodation establishments in Spain and Mallorca. On January 02, 2023, Royal Decree 933/2021 of October 26, 2021 came into force. Accordingly, from 01.10.2024, all natural or legal persons who carry out accommodation or vehicle rentals are obliged to register and register guests.
Previously, the host had to register with the police or the Guardia Civil. However, the data is now transferred via the SES Hospedajes website, which is the website of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
Landlords must register on this online platform and enter personal data and information about the accommodation they offer. The landlord also needs an electronic certificate to register. The aim of guest registration is to ensure public safety.
According to Royal Decree 933/2021, data must be reported to the Ministry of the Interior within 24 hours of the booking/reservation, as well as upon arrival. For this purpose, the host should present their guests with a self-created form with the required data upon arrival, which must be completed and signed. This form must also be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior within 24 hours via the online platform. The data to be submitted includes details of the owner of the property, details of the property, details of the travelers, details of the contract and payment. The exact information to be provided can be found in the annex to Royal Decree 933/2021.
Guests who do not identify themselves with all the required data will not be able to use the accommodation.
It should be borne in mind that non-compliance with these requirements can sometimes result in high fines.
