Thousands of cruise tourists stroll through the island's capital Palma every day in summer. Thanks to them, the ports of the Balearic Islands are the most profitable in all of Europe.
In 2019, the year before the pandemic, Balearic ports brought the islands revenues of 470 million euros, mainly thanks to cruise tourism. This is a quarter of the European profit in this sector of the economy. In international comparison, the Balearic ports are surpassed only by those in Miami and St. Maarten in the Caribbean.
