The construction of the first wave power plant in Mallorca is scheduled to begin at the end of this year, For the project at the Port Adriano in El Toro there was already the green light. Now those responsible have announced that the work is to last 18 to 24 months. Then the plant should bring a capacity of up to two megawatts and cover 50 percent of the energy consumption of the port Port Adriano.
Wave power plants use the energy of the ocean waves to generate electrical power; they are thus counted among the renewable energies.
The Port Authority is implementing the project together with the Swedish company Eco Wave Power, which has other projects planned in Israel, the United States, Portugal, Morocco, Greece and Gibraltar.
