Last year, the Spanish government introduced a number of changes to road traffic. Since then, a speed limit of 30 km/h has been in force in built-up areas with one lane in each direction.

Now the government in Madrid is going to enact further innovations, which primarily affect the catalog of fines.
In addition it is to be known that a road user in Spain, differently than in many countries, starts with a point credit of 15 and this decreases with offences.
Thus, from now on, 6 points will be deducted for using a cell phone at the wheel, 4 points for not wearing a seat belt, 6 points for throwing cigarette butts out of the car and 3 points for carrying radar detectors. If you do not wear a helmet or do not wear it correctly, 4 points will be deducted.

Anyone overtaking a motorcyclist or cyclist on a 2-lane road must use the parallel lane for this purpose. On a single-lane road, a minimum distance of 1.5 meters must be maintained.

Stopping and parking in bike lanes is strictly prohibited and is punishable as a serious offense.

Anyone overtaking another road user must obey the speed limit.

For cyclists and scooter drivers under 18 years of age, the 0.0 per mille limit applies.
For professional drivers and novice drivers with a driver's license of less than 2 years, the 0.3 per mille limit applies.
For the rest, a per mille limit of 0.5 applies in Spain.
