Switzerland lifted the mandatory quarantine for travelers returning from Spain at the weekend. The reason is the numbers in their own country, which would not justify such a measure. Austria is also easing its restrictions and many Mallorca residents are now looking to Germany, where the new quarantine model ordinance is due to come into force on November 8, 2020. This contains proposals on how the individual federal states should deal with travelers returning from risk areas. A 10-day quarantine, which can be lifted after 5 days at the earliest by a negative PCR test, will then also apply to German citizens flying back home from Mallorca. There are exceptions for commuters and family visits where you are in Germany for no longer than 72 hours.
For tourism and gastronomy on Mallorca, this decision comes late, but still hope for some business at Christmas and New Year. For in addition to Switzerland and Austria, Swedes are currently allowed to return to their home country quarantine-free, if they have stayed in Spain. Swedes are one of the most affluent target groups on Mallorca. Swiss continues to connect Mallorca with Zurich on a daily basis. From Basel and Geneva EasyJet flies increasingly around the Christmas holidays to the island.
So property owners can look forward to a sunny Christmas!
